Kathy,
Much good advice and insight was already given here. For me, the JW's touting the scripture John 13:35 as one of the identifying marks of true religion, was eventually a red flag for me. Your friend may not be able to see this right now, because she is going to be on the receiving end of a lot of "love". The witnesses always do this to new one's. RHW, said it best, many months ago and this is when I heard it for the first time even though I was a JW for some thirty eight years, love bombing.
But in the book you are reading C of C, there is a passage where it talks about how brothers in Malawi were dying, being savagely beaten, and systematically raped for not buying a party card. Society policy. In that same passage, a situation arose in Mexico which was very similiar and a political connection was sanctioned by the Society, which allowed the Mexican brothers to avoid what happened to their brethern in Malawi.
I was aware, as one of JW's about Malawi, but had no clue about Mexico. Perhaps in conjunction with this account you could cause a question in her mind about John 13:35 being an identifying mark.
There was also some accounts about changes on sexual policy, which caused great devastation in lives. One in particular that stands out, was an account of a sister who discovered her husband was involved in bestiality, the elder's ruled it was not grounds for adultrey and divorce. Within a very short period of time the policy was changed. She had been disfellowshipped for remarrying already. She pleaded for mercy and asked for them to reinstate her to the congregation on the basis of their own changed policy, they refused. Again, blatant disregard for John 13:35, IMO.
Good luck!!

Why is this an APOSTATE site?!?
by LaraK ini made a big mistake when signing up at this supposed website for jehovah's witnesses.
after reading some things on this site it has become apparent to me that this site is nothing put another pathetic site for apostates: people who betrayed jehovah, left the truth, and are so bitter about their experiene in the truth, and they are angry just like satan because they know they will very soon be dead at jehovah's hand!.
this website should be renamed something more fitting like "satan's playground" or a similar name that would get across the message of your site.. sincerely,.

Is this a apostate website
by robertK innothin on this website is positive, its all anti-witness!!
it helps nobody and does no good, and is for breaking down not building up, is there any righteous witnesses out there??
?

Robert,
I am sorry you got such a bad reaction. But perhaps it could be due to the fact that you didn't ask your question in a tactful manner.
I think in order to answer your question, you would have to tell us what your definition of an apostate is. Once we have established that then we could better address the question.
For me this site has been a life saver. A great support in a time of need.
You might want to do as some others have suggested and read the personal stories before jumping to any conclusions.
Otherwise, welcome to the board. It would be a delight to discuss things with you with civility!

Just 2,
Thank you so much for sharing this!! As some others have expressed, it gives me hope for my family. Especially my father, whom I believe to be an honest and good man.
Just out of curiosity, in your exodus, did the others on the body give you a hard time for your honesty? My father has gone through much trauma, for being honest and sticking to his principles. Even to the point of being removed twice over the years. I believe he is a MS again. Which at the time when he became one, I strongly advised against, even though I was still in at the time. They have publicly humiliated him and my family so many times. Makes me wonder how many times you have to be kicked when you are down, before you realize something is wrong with this picture.
I wish you happiness and light on your journey. I am confident you will find it, because it sounds as if you are a good man!!
Everyone else has already covered my other thoughts. The big one being that all the good one's are leaving. Which, IMO, will hopefully be the downfall of a cult. But maybe not in my lifetime!

A short statement on the long shift
by Preston inas a sit writing this i will say that i am possibly going through one of the toughest times of my life right now.
i have recently told the elders of my congregation that i have identified myself as "queer" and it has been one of the toughest roads i have ever had to walk.
i am not trying to offend anyone on the boards by telling you this but i feel that it's important to live honestly and my decission to "come out" to people in the congregation is one based on trying to live honestly.

Preston,
I for one admire your courage tremendously. Personally, I wouldn't care one whit about what the elders had to say to you. They don't have a clue what it is like to live in the real world, because they are world famous avoiders.
I lived with a man, who definitely has homosexual tendencies for almost seventeen years. It was a miserable marriage. He is now re-married (in the Borg, pity for her).
I wish he had had your courage and integrity to do what you did. But he didn't and I don't think he ever will. More pity for all the people around him that he makes miserable.
Just keep up your courage and resolve you are definitely on the right track, IMO.

I getting bored with this Board
by OlderTom ini'm just wondering if it is because i have changed and have gained my freedom from the watchtower enslavement or i just don't care anymore or is it that i have been exposed to too much of the same old complaints about the borg and all the false prophecies and the lies?.
i must admit i still get pleasure from reports of the watchtower walls starting to crumble al over the civilized world so i guess i'll continue to pop in from time to time.. as far as trying to de-program and rescue the poor unfortunate brainnumbed watchtower slaves, i think it's a total waste of time after all how do get through to people who prefer to believe in the lies when they know they are lies but they just don't want to see the real truth about the "truth(tm)".
i gues they don't want to see the real truth because it would force them to start thinking for them selves again and for some people that is just too much of a burden to bear.

Older Tom,
I honestly feel I can understand where you are coming from! Many times I feel the very same way.
But then again, I can also say that in the replies you got, many of my thoughts are also reflected.
Guess I just hope that some day, I can find a way to help the one's I love who are still in (including most of my family). I am just hoping that my family will not just fritter away the precious little time we have left. Maybe real communication will open up someday, if I am just patient. Continue learning and knowing.
This board and the internet, provided me with a wealth of information that I could have never been exposed to any other way!! And the personal stories and knowlege of people like you and Larc and so many others have given me the stamina and ablility to be firm in my decision despite all the losses!!
Thank you for opening up this discussion. Just more information to keep me focused!
